[00:04.700 --> 00:14.100] The Bay Area's major news of the day, Frank Somerville, Julie Hanger, the 10 o'clock news on KTVU Channel 2, complete Bay Area news coverage. [00:18.500 --> 00:28.200] Occupy Oakland and Oscar Grant supporters joined forces today to make a point, but will the alliance be lifelong or grow uneasy as 2012 unfolds? [00:28.200 --> 00:35.200] Cell phone video shows the ferocious flames they consume to house just minutes into the new year. [00:35.200 --> 00:40.200] And a new year means new laws will tell you which ones could impact you the most. [00:41.200 --> 00:48.200] Complete Bay Area news coverage starts right now. This is KTVU Channel 2 News at 5. [00:49.200 --> 00:51.200] Good evening, I'm Ken Pritchett and tonight for Ken Wayne. [00:51.200 --> 00:58.200] And I'm Heather Holmes, a rally today to mark the third anniversary of the death of a man shot and killed by bar police. [00:58.200 --> 01:05.200] Today's demonstration honored passenger Oscar Grant, but it also was a rallying point for the waning Occupy movement. [01:05.200 --> 01:11.200] KTVU's Patty Lee was with marchers today who tell her they have plans for the new year. Patty? [01:11.200 --> 01:16.200] Well, more than 120 protesters marched for an hour and a half to get here from Franco Gala Plaza. [01:16.200 --> 01:22.200] Now, the vigil is ending just about now behind that kiosk. You can see folks are starting to leave and to get onto buses. [01:22.200 --> 01:28.200] Now, today's events were organized by both the Oscar Grant committee and by Occupy Oakland. [01:33.200 --> 01:41.200] Three years after he was shot and killed by a bar police officer, Oscar Grant has become a martyr of sorts for the Occupy Oakland movement. [01:41.200 --> 01:46.200] Where the Occupy and Oscar Grant issues overlap is around police brutality. [01:50.200 --> 01:58.200] More than 120 protesters gathered to remember Grant at Franco Gala Plaza this afternoon before marching to the Fruitvale Bard Station, [01:58.200 --> 02:04.200] where Grant, unarmed, hands behind his back, was killed New Year's Day 2009. [02:04.200 --> 02:11.200] It's real emotional for me because... Earlier, Oscar Grant's family gathered there for a private memorial service. [02:11.200 --> 02:17.200] It's a day for us to remember Oscar and to not forget what happened to him. [02:17.200 --> 02:24.200] Grant's mother says Oscar's legacy lies in ending police brutality and holding officers accountable for their actions. [02:24.200 --> 02:27.200] As for the legacy of Occupy Oakland, undetermined. [02:27.200 --> 02:33.200] I feel that there's a lot of different people rallying for different things in the Occupy movement. [02:33.200 --> 02:39.200] Grant's family says the groups may not be entirely in sync, but it is grateful for Occupy support. [02:39.200 --> 02:44.200] I want to keep Oscar's name and memory alive as long as we can. [02:44.200 --> 02:51.200] But others in the Grant camp are worried that if the Occupy Oakland movement embraces civil disobedience in the year ahead, [02:51.200 --> 02:54.200] it may dilute the message they share. [02:54.200 --> 02:59.200] They're not supposed to be doing things that I'm setting and disrupting anyone else. [02:59.200 --> 03:03.200] Oscar isn't about that. [03:03.200 --> 03:07.200] And if they want to use his name, they need to be doing the correct thing. [03:07.200 --> 03:12.200] Occupy Oakland organizers say they do have some New Year's resolutions, [03:12.200 --> 03:19.200] one of which is to occupy a building this month so they can stop being harassed at their outdoor encampment. [03:19.200 --> 03:23.200] Reporting live in Oakland, Patty Lee, KTVU, Channel 2 News. [03:23.200 --> 03:30.200] Violence marred New Years in Oakland as police responded to gunfire on 14th and Franklin streets this morning. [03:30.200 --> 03:35.200] When police arrived around 2 a.m., they found a woman with a gunshot wound to her hand. [03:35.200 --> 03:40.200] As they investigated the shooting, a car drove up with another woman who had been shot in her leg. [03:40.200 --> 03:42.200] Police say the shootings are unrelated. [03:42.200 --> 03:44.200] Both women are being treated at the hospital. [03:44.200 --> 03:47.200] No arrests have been made in either shooting. [03:47.200 --> 03:54.200] Oakland police announced a $5,000 reward this afternoon for information on the shooter who fatally wounded a 5-year-old boy [03:54.200 --> 03:56.200] on International Boulevard Friday night. [03:56.200 --> 04:03.200] Gabriel Martinez Jr. was outside his family's taco truck on 54th Avenue when a man ordered some food [04:03.200 --> 04:06.200] and then turned around and sprayed the truck with gunfire. [04:06.200 --> 04:10.200] The suspect then drove away in a silver Pontiac with a female passenger. [04:10.200 --> 04:15.200] Oakland's homicide total last year rose for the first time in four years. [04:15.200 --> 04:20.200] The city's official count for 2011 is 103 homicides. [04:20.200 --> 04:22.200] That's 11 more than in 2010. [04:22.200 --> 04:29.200] Five-year-old Gabriel Martinez was the third young child killed by gunfire in Oakland in 2011. [04:29.200 --> 04:35.200] Three-year-old Carlos Nava and 23-year-old Hiram Lawrence Jr. were also shot and killed. [04:35.200 --> 04:42.200] Petaluma police have identified an alleged drunk driver suspected of hitting a 15-year-old boy who was at a crosswalk. [04:42.200 --> 04:49.200] Investigators say 20-year-old Wesley Pickford of Nevada failed to stop at East Washington and Edith Streets, [04:49.200 --> 04:53.200] striking the teen in the crosswalk there around 12.30 a.m. [04:53.200 --> 05:01.200] The boy is listed in stable condition, but with serious injuries, Pickford was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on $30,000 bail. [05:01.200 --> 05:09.200] The CHP is reporting two fatality fatal DUI-related crashes in the Bay Area so far this New Year's holiday weekend. [05:09.200 --> 05:13.200] That's actually down from four fatalities for the same time last year. [05:13.200 --> 05:20.200] The number of DUI arrests is up with a total of 161 arrests compared to 124 last year. [05:20.200 --> 05:29.200] Those numbers, though, are expected to rise when the CHP releases the totals from its maximum enforcement effort, which ends Monday at midnight. [05:29.200 --> 05:34.200] Now to the South Bay where a family there is starting the New Year in temporary housing. [05:34.200 --> 05:41.200] After a three-alarm fire gutted the historic San Jose home they lived in and less than an hour into the New Year. [05:41.200 --> 05:46.200] Katie's Marine Naylor obtained cell phone videos showing the challenge firefighters faced. [05:46.200 --> 05:48.200] It's gone. Everything is gone my whole life. [05:48.200 --> 05:56.200] Elizabeth Swar is never thought she'd start 2012 barefoot outside the historic downtown San Jose house she's rented for the past five years. [05:56.200 --> 06:03.200] No shoes, no nothing. I mean, I got nothing. I don't have my purse, my ID, nothing. Everything's just gone. [06:03.200 --> 06:06.200] Everything, she says, but this basket of laundry. [06:06.200 --> 06:12.200] Firefighters are still investigating what caused the fire at this Victorian home just 50 minutes into the New Year. [06:12.200 --> 06:17.200] A neighbor shot this cell phone video showing flames consuming the attic and first floor. [06:17.200 --> 06:23.200] Suarez says she, her two teenage children and a friend were sleeping inside when the smoke detector went off. [06:23.200 --> 06:30.200] It started in my son's room because my friend woke us up and said he smelled smoke and that's when the smoke came in. [06:30.200 --> 06:33.200] And then we opened the door and flames were just all over the place. [06:33.200 --> 06:36.200] And I just immediately got my kids up and said get up, get up, there's a fire. [06:36.200 --> 06:39.200] They were fighting a difficult battle from the start. [06:39.200 --> 06:44.200] Difficult Fire Captain Rob Brown says because these historic homes often lack fire breaks. [06:44.200 --> 06:49.200] When we get fires like this we can end up with fire in the basement and the attic and the fire floor within minutes. [06:49.200 --> 06:56.200] Everyone escaped safely, but the home on North Fifth Street, which is part of San Jose's Hensley Historic District, was severely damaged. [06:56.200 --> 07:04.200] It's sad, I mean basically we lose these by fire, that's about the, you know, unfortunately they're protected, but you can't protect them from fire. [07:04.200 --> 07:08.200] Firefighters estimate the damage of at least a half a million dollars. [07:08.200 --> 07:13.200] The family says the Red Cross is putting them up for a few days until they can figure out where they're going to live next. [07:13.200 --> 07:17.200] In San Jose, Maureen Naylor, KTVU, Channel 2 News. [07:17.200 --> 07:21.200] It is a new year and with that come several new laws for California. [07:21.200 --> 07:28.200] Whether it's how you buckle up your kids in the car or what types of treatment medical insurance must cover. [07:28.200 --> 07:31.200] There is a good chance one of these new laws will apply to you. [07:31.200 --> 07:37.200] Now KTVU's Claudine Wong will detail some of those new laws coming up later in the newscast. [07:37.200 --> 07:43.200] The squirrel monkey named Banana Sam is back in his enclosure at the San Francisco Zoo this evening. [07:43.200 --> 07:50.200] The 17-year-old squirrel monkey was found yesterday afternoon by a man in Stern Grove Park about a mile from the zoo. [07:50.200 --> 07:58.200] The unidentified man coaxed the tiny monkey back into his backpack and then that man called police who took him to the zoo. [07:58.200 --> 08:02.200] Officials there say the monkey was scared and hungry but otherwise healthy. [08:02.200 --> 08:08.200] Banana Sam was either taken or escaped from his enclosure on Thursday night after someone cut the fencing. [08:08.200 --> 08:13.200] The man who found the monkey was questioned and is not considered a suspect. [08:13.200 --> 08:27.200] It may be January first but it didn't feel much like winter today across the Bay Area. Chrissy Field in San Francisco was just one of the many places where people went for a walk, run or played fetch with their dog wearing only short sleeves, maybe even a light jacket. [08:27.200 --> 08:36.200] Temperatures across the Bay Area were as much as 10 degrees above average today and we've seen less than half the normal rainfall for the season. [08:36.200 --> 08:40.200] With more on our very mild and dry weather we go to our meteorologist Mark Tamayo. [08:40.200 --> 08:45.200] Heather, in fact we're taking a live look outside right now looking out toward the beautiful San Francisco Bay. [08:45.200 --> 08:49.200] The high clouds have been increasing over the past few hours and those clouds will be factors. [08:49.200 --> 08:56.200] We do head into it tomorrow but most of the Bay Area warmed up into the 60s this afternoon, mid and upper 60s. [08:56.200 --> 09:01.200] As the high clouds spill into the region temperatures will be cooling off back down into the 30s and 40s. [09:01.200 --> 09:08.200] As you can't pick out on live storm track or two on the satellite we can't show you this as we take a look at our next source. [09:08.200 --> 09:12.200] There you can pick out on live storm track or two. Just a few high clouds approaching. [09:12.200 --> 09:15.200] Kate Mendocino in the bulk of the moisture out here in the Pacific. [09:15.200 --> 09:21.200] There is a very weak weather system approaching our coastline that will have an effect on our forecast for tomorrow. [09:21.200 --> 09:29.200] With that we do bring in just a slight chance of some drizzle up in the North Bay or a few sprinkles but we should be cooling things off as we do head into your Monday. [09:29.200 --> 09:36.200] As far as this rain-free weather I'll let you know if we have any rain clouds coming up in that 5-day forecast in your full update in just a few minutes. [09:36.200 --> 09:43.200] Alright, thanks Mark. Well today and tomorrow are spare the air days which means of course wood burning is banned. [09:43.200 --> 09:50.200] The Bay Area Air Quality District says the lack of wind is creating unhealthy air which can be problematic for those with breathing problems. [09:50.200 --> 09:57.200] Now tomorrow's spare the air day will be the 12th this season compared to four last season. [09:57.200 --> 10:07.200] Tens of thousands of people rang in New Year along San Francisco's Embarcadero this morning. [10:07.200 --> 10:15.200] The chilly temperatures didn't keep people away from the open air party with many dressed in warm jackets and others with top hats and tuxedos. [10:15.200 --> 10:20.200] Many revelers found it hard to move through the crowd as the clock approached midnight. [10:20.200 --> 10:31.200] Taxis and public transit ran into the early morning hours getting people back home. [10:31.200 --> 10:36.200] Hundreds of thousands crowded into New York's Times Square to watch the ball drop. [10:36.200 --> 10:42.200] The party left plenty of work for 149 sanitation workers who converged on the area this morning. [10:42.200 --> 10:52.200] Picking up 50 tons of party hats, empty containers and confetti with 22 trucks, 24 sweepers and 37 backpack blowers. [10:52.200 --> 10:56.200] The stroke of midnight rang in more than the New Year for one San Lorenzo family. [10:56.200 --> 10:59.200] It also brought them their first baby girl. [10:59.200 --> 11:02.200] May we introduce you now to little Sophia Trigueros. [11:02.200 --> 11:09.200] According to those at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, Sophia is the first baby born in the Bay Area in 2012. [11:09.200 --> 11:16.200] Amelia Trigueros says Sophia wasn't actually due until January 3rd, but around 5.30 last night she went into labor. [11:16.200 --> 11:20.200] And the family had their fingers crossed that baby would wait until midnight. [11:20.200 --> 11:25.200] She gets to count on to her birthday every year. She's going to think all the fireworks are for her. [11:25.200 --> 11:27.200] And they are for her, right? [11:27.200 --> 11:32.200] Sophia waited at 7 pounds, 5 ounces and was a little more than 19 inches long. [11:32.200 --> 11:37.200] And when Sophia goes home, she will be greeted by four older brothers. [11:37.200 --> 11:43.200] The police in Washington State are looking for a gunman who shot and killed a park ranger on Mount Rainier, also ahead. [11:43.200 --> 11:50.200] It will be a restless night for some people living in the LA area as the community braces for more arses. [11:50.200 --> 11:57.200] Also, the final push is now underway in Iowa as GOP hopeful stuff for votes ahead of Tuesday's caucuses. [11:57.200 --> 12:07.200] And new figures are out on just how much money was lost in the Bay Area housing market. [12:27.200 --> 12:31.200] We have 1,000 more for your trade and start the New Year in style. [12:31.200 --> 12:57.200] We'll be right back. [12:57.200 --> 13:04.200] We'll be right back. [13:27.200 --> 13:37.200] And we think that's the best prize of all. [13:37.200 --> 13:52.200] Sometimes your best singing is done not behind the microphone, but behind the wheel. [13:52.200 --> 14:07.200] I wonder what you'll sound like in a Hyundai. [14:07.200 --> 14:14.200] A manhand is underway at this hour on Washington's Mount Rainier after a gunman shot and killed a park ranger. [14:14.200 --> 14:18.200] The gunman is believed to be somewhere in the expansive National Park. [14:18.200 --> 14:26.200] Authorities say around 10.30 this morning, a ranger tried to pull over the suspect for a routine traffic stop. [14:26.200 --> 14:33.200] But when the driver didn't stop, 34-year-old park ranger Margaret Anderson set up her vehicle as a roadblock. [14:33.200 --> 14:38.200] When the suspect arrived at the roadblock, he got out of his car and shot and killed Anderson. [14:38.200 --> 14:45.200] Police and firefighters in the Los Angeles area are on high alert tonight as they deal with 39 arses. [14:45.200 --> 14:50.200] This car fire in West Hollywood was one of seven new fires that broke out just overnight. [14:50.200 --> 14:57.200] The car fires have often spread to nearby apartment complexes and heavily damaged a home once owned by Jim Morrison. [14:57.200 --> 15:04.200] Since the arson outbreak began late Thursday, authorities have been working around the clock to try to find the fire bug. [15:04.200 --> 15:12.200] The acts we've seen over the last 72 hours here in these communities have kept these public safety professionals up at night working tirelessly. [15:12.200 --> 15:19.200] Since December 30th, the Los Angeles Fire Department alone has responded to over 3,300 calls for service in the city. [15:19.200 --> 15:25.200] A white male in his mid-30s with a ponytail was spotted by a parking garage security camera, [15:25.200 --> 15:32.200] but it is unclear tonight if he is the sole arsonist or if some of those fires are being set now by copycats. [15:32.200 --> 15:41.200] California faces new budget woes this year as $1 billion in automatic cuts are triggered by a shortfall in last year's tax revenue. [15:41.200 --> 15:49.200] Most of those cuts will come out of higher education, but already hit hard by a 16% drop in overall state spending since the start of the recession. [15:49.200 --> 15:59.200] Governor Brown is proposing a ballot measure that would raise $7 billion a year by raising state income taxes on the wealthy and increasing the sales tax on everyone else. [15:59.200 --> 16:06.200] If nothing is done, California will face another $13 billion in cuts over the next year and a half. [16:06.200 --> 16:18.200] Exxon has won a large award in a dispute with Venezuela. Back in 2007, President Hugo Chávez's government nationalized a reserve that contained an Exxon oil project. [16:18.200 --> 16:25.200] Today, the oil company announced the International Chamber of Commerce awarded it nearly $908 million. [16:25.200 --> 16:30.200] The commerce body found Venezuela's state oil company was liable for that takeover. [16:30.200 --> 16:36.200] Venezuela has not commented yet on the award to Exxon. [16:36.200 --> 16:43.200] Republicans hoping to win the Iowa caucus took to the airwaves today, making their final case before Tuesday's vote. [16:43.200 --> 16:48.200] Also today, a newspaper endorsement supported Mitt Romney's narrow lead in the polls. [16:48.200 --> 16:53.200] But the final results are up for grabs, with many Iowa voters still undecided. [16:53.200 --> 16:57.200] Reporter Barbara Hall has the latest on the campaign trail. [16:57.200 --> 17:03.200] A political fight to the finish line before the first real voting of the 2012 presidential race. [17:03.200 --> 17:08.200] The latest Des Moines Register poll shows Mitt Romney and Ron Paul neck and neck. [17:08.200 --> 17:11.200] Paul says his campaign is picking up momentum. [17:11.200 --> 17:16.200] We're doing very, very well and people should just be a little bit patient. [17:16.200 --> 17:19.200] You know, on Tuesday we're going to find out a lot more about the future of this election. [17:19.200 --> 17:27.200] Mitt Romney is narrowly leading among caucus goers. On Sunday he picked up another endorsement from Iowa newspaper, The Quad City Times. [17:27.200 --> 17:32.200] Former Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania rounded out the top three in the poll. [17:32.200 --> 17:39.200] My surge is going to come on January 3rd. After the people of Iowa do what they do, which is actually analyze the candidates, [17:39.200 --> 17:47.200] figure out where their positions are, find out who's the right leader, who's got what it takes to defeat Barack Obama and to lead this country. [17:47.200 --> 17:49.200] Iowa's governor seems to agree. [17:49.200 --> 17:58.200] My goal is as governor, unite the Republican Party, attract the independence and defeat Obama. We launched him, we want to sink him. [17:58.200 --> 18:06.200] Also on the campaign trail Sunday, Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry and Michelle Bachman stumping in Iowa, while John Huntsman focuses on New Hampshire, [18:06.200 --> 18:09.200] which votes a week after the Iowa caucus. [18:09.200 --> 18:12.200] I'm Barbara Hall reporting. [18:12.200 --> 18:21.200] And as the presidential race heats up, you could be asked to share your opinion. The non-profit, non-partisan Pew Research Center is one of the largest pollsters in the nation. [18:21.200 --> 18:27.200] And while many people say they don't have time for a poll, some question why they've never been asked for their opinion. [18:27.200 --> 18:35.200] There are 220 or 30 million adults in the United States. Our typical survey will interview 1,500. [18:35.200 --> 18:44.200] Even over the course of a year, the chance that we would call any given individual is only about one in 150,000. [18:44.200 --> 18:54.200] Collars are never told who is actually conducting the poll to prevent the survey from being influenced by partisan feelings of either the poll takers or those who answer the poll. [18:54.200 --> 19:01.200] Authorities at Kennedy Airport in New York arrested a college student from China who they say tried to bring a stun gun on board a plane. [19:01.200 --> 19:06.200] The TSA says a screener noticed something looking like a flashlight in the woman's luggage. [19:06.200 --> 19:10.200] Upon further inspection, the screener saw that it was a stun gun. [19:10.200 --> 19:16.200] The college student told reporters she pleaded not guilty and believes her case will result in a fine. [19:16.200 --> 19:23.200] A member of the U.S. military is in custody tonight facing charges of attempting to bring explosives onto an airplane. [19:23.200 --> 19:32.200] The FBI says 30-year-old Trace Scott Atwater was stopped Saturday at a security checkpoint at Midland Airport in Texas. [19:32.200 --> 19:38.200] Searchers say they found explosives in his bag in what are being called military-grade wrappings. [19:38.200 --> 19:45.200] Atwater is stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina and was in Midland visiting family. His arraignment is set for Tuesday. [19:45.200 --> 19:49.200] Air travel fatalities worldwide fell dramatically last year. [19:49.200 --> 19:57.200] There were 401 deaths on commercial and charter aircraft in 2011 compared to 726 in 2010. [19:57.200 --> 20:04.200] Excluding acts of terrorism, the number of air travel-related fatalities has fallen steadily since 1990, [20:04.200 --> 20:08.200] with airline experts crediting better pilot training and safer airplanes. [20:08.200 --> 20:15.200] British aviation research company Ascend says your odds of dying on a commercial flight are 1 in 7 million. [20:15.200 --> 20:20.200] New figures out today show how hard the recession has hit the Bay Area housing market. [20:20.200 --> 20:29.200] In an analysis for the San Jose Mercury News, data quick reports that local homes lost more than a third of a trillion dollars during the past four years. [20:29.200 --> 20:43.200] Homes in Oakland lost an average of $350,000 and conquered the average loss was $289,000 with $267,000 in San Jose and $205,000 in San Francisco. [20:43.200 --> 20:48.200] Home equity loans have dropped about 90% since 2007. [20:48.200 --> 20:52.200] NASA says two identical probes are now circling the moon. [20:52.200 --> 20:59.200] The two spacecraft are part of a mission called GRAIL, short for Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory. [20:59.200 --> 21:06.200] They were designed to map the moon's gravity field in an effort to understand what is below the moon's surface. [21:06.200 --> 21:13.200] NASA engineers plan to maneuver the two orbiters closer to the moon and start the mapping in March. [21:13.200 --> 21:20.200] Some Occupy protesters are facing charges here, what they are accused of and why some fellow activists are distancing themselves. [21:20.200 --> 21:25.200] Also ahead, here what's behind new missile testing today in Iran. [21:25.200 --> 21:36.200] Also coming up, we will have details on a new program for veterans that makes the transition from combat to the classroom a little easier. [21:55.200 --> 21:58.200] Can you stay out of trouble for five days? [21:58.200 --> 22:00.200] Kick off the new year with a two hour event. [22:00.200 --> 22:02.200] We will help here! [22:02.200 --> 22:06.200] House Monday at 8 on KTVU Fox News. [22:06.200 --> 22:10.200] Papa Murphy's was founded on the idea of making pizza like no one else. [22:10.200 --> 22:13.200] So every day in every store, every pizza is made fresh. [22:13.200 --> 22:18.200] Like the all new Chicken Parmesan Delight, try one today for just eight bucks. [22:18.200 --> 22:21.200] Papa Murphy's joined the Taken Bake Revolution. [22:21.200 --> 22:23.200] This is definitely big news. [22:23.200 --> 22:26.200] Now, all appointment windows are two hours or less. [22:26.200 --> 22:29.200] And if for some reason we're over late, we'll credit $20 right on your bill. [22:29.200 --> 22:34.200] The two hour window is great for customers because it lets them know that we value their time. [22:34.200 --> 22:38.200] If we tell you we're going to get to your house between 8 and 10, we're going to get to between 8 and 10. [22:38.200 --> 22:40.200] This two hour window is a pretty cool thing. [22:40.200 --> 22:43.200] I'm proud to work for a company like this. [22:43.200 --> 22:46.200] Introducing two hour appointment windows from Comcast. [22:46.200 --> 22:51.200] Part of our promise to put customers first and always be on time. Guaranteed. [22:51.200 --> 22:55.200] There is a place where people understand and care. [22:55.200 --> 23:00.200] A place that can help you discover a new life free of alcohol or drug dependency. [23:00.200 --> 23:25.200] But wait another sleepless night. Call Mountain Vista Farm at 1-800-300-6716 now. [23:30.200 --> 23:32.200] Don't miss the year-end clearance sale. [23:32.200 --> 23:33.200] Sleep change. [23:33.200 --> 23:36.200] You're taking to a better night's sleep. [23:37.200 --> 23:39.200] One more gift. [23:41.200 --> 23:46.200] If you're giving an amazing gift, shouldn't it be given in an amazing way? [23:46.200 --> 23:58.200] The Lexus December to Remember sales event is here, but only for a limited time. [24:01.200 --> 24:05.200] Get 0.9% financing on the 2012 ES315. [24:05.200 --> 24:07.200] See your Lexus dealer. [24:08.200 --> 24:11.200] In news of the world tonight in Iran today, [24:11.200 --> 24:16.200] a television aired video of an Iranian Navy ship test firing a surface-to-air missile [24:16.200 --> 24:19.200] during a drill near the Strait of Hormuz. [24:19.200 --> 24:23.200] A leading Iranian lawmaker said the drill is practiced for closing the waterway [24:23.200 --> 24:26.200] if the West blocks Iran's oil sales. [24:26.200 --> 24:33.200] Also today, Iran's nuclear agency claimed workers have made and tested the first nuclear fuel rod. [24:33.200 --> 24:39.200] Now this news comes a day after Iran called for a new round of talks about its nuclear program. [24:39.200 --> 24:44.200] In Syria today, Arab League monitors remained in the country despite calls for them to leave [24:44.200 --> 24:46.200] from inside the Arab League itself. [24:46.200 --> 24:52.200] The head of an advisory panel said the monitors are instead giving Syrian President Assad a cover [24:52.200 --> 24:55.200] to allow his forces to continue killing civilians. [24:55.200 --> 25:00.200] The monitors are supposed to be ensuring Syria complies with terms of the Arab League's plan [25:00.200 --> 25:05.200] to end the nine-month-old crackdown on dissent that has not yet happened. [25:05.200 --> 25:10.200] And in England today, nine-year-old Prince Philip was seen by the public for the first time [25:10.200 --> 25:12.200] since his emergency heart surgery. [25:12.200 --> 25:17.200] Doctors implanted a coronary stent after the prince went to a hospital with chest pains. [25:17.200 --> 25:22.200] The queen's husband walked about 400 yards today to attend New Year's Day services. [25:22.200 --> 25:25.200] His wife, Queen Elizabeth, rode that distance in a limousine. [25:25.200 --> 25:31.200] Men and women returning from wars overseas are coming home to a weak economy and high unemployment. [25:31.200 --> 25:35.200] Those who choose to go to college, however, will have some help. [25:35.200 --> 25:41.200] Reporter Anita Vogel talked to one veteran injured in Iraq who was getting help to go to college. [25:41.200 --> 25:46.200] The biggest thing was the economy took a dump on me right when I was getting out of the service. [25:46.200 --> 25:53.200] But California's Veterans Affairs Department is simplifying the transition from combat to the classroom. [25:53.200 --> 25:59.200] After signing up, vets get an email list of colleges in their zip code along with financial aid information. [25:59.200 --> 26:04.200] Much of their application is even filled out for them using data from their military forms, [26:04.200 --> 26:08.200] making it easier for vets like Ariza to get the ball rolling. [26:08.200 --> 26:10.200] I was a little lost at first and afraid to do it. [26:10.200 --> 26:17.200] I wanted to go to school, but just did not know how to even make the first step, even applying for school. [26:17.200 --> 26:22.200] That's changing, and California hopes it will become a model for other states [26:22.200 --> 26:26.200] to help vets with their first steps back into civilian life. [26:26.200 --> 26:32.200] Our veterans have made a sacrifice for our country, and they certainly deserve a helping hand when they come home. [26:32.200 --> 26:39.200] This is a joint venture between the California Department of Veterans Affairs and the California Community Colleges. [26:39.200 --> 26:45.200] Each year, 30,000 men and women return home from the service to civilian life in California. [26:45.200 --> 26:49.200] In Los Angeles, Anita Vogel, Fox News. [26:49.200 --> 26:55.200] Four men in North Carolina are facing arson charges for burning two American flags near an Occupy camp. [26:55.200 --> 26:58.200] It happened yesterday at the Occupy Charlotte camp. [26:58.200 --> 27:06.200] One of the men who was arrested says he burned the flags to inspire people to take more direct action in response to the world's problems. [27:06.200 --> 27:09.200] The flag burning upset other occupiers. [27:09.200 --> 27:14.200] Some of them decided to leave the Occupy camp after hearing the news. [27:14.200 --> 27:18.200] I do formally apologize to anyone who was offended by my actions. [27:18.200 --> 27:23.200] However, I do not apologize for the burning of the flag as it is my constitutional right to do so. [27:23.200 --> 27:27.200] These people are not members of the Occupy movement. They're campers. [27:27.200 --> 27:35.200] I'm an occupier because I'm occupying ethics, morality, principles, ideas, ways to move our country forward. [27:35.200 --> 27:41.200] As a group, Occupy Charlotte also made it clear that it does not support the burning of the flag. [27:41.200 --> 27:48.200] In Southern California, members of the Occupy movement are getting ready to march along the route for the Tournament of Roses Parade. [27:48.200 --> 27:58.200] In addition to a huge U.S. Constitution, they will have a massive octopus with tentacles meant to symbolize Wall Street's influence on American society. [27:58.200 --> 28:05.200] Pasadena City officials gave the OK for the occupiers to march after the Rose Parade itself has finished. [28:05.200 --> 28:07.200] Well, it was a violent night in the South Bay. [28:07.200 --> 28:13.200] Hear what led up to the stabbings and shootings that kept San Jose police officers very busy last night. [28:13.200 --> 28:19.200] And with the new year comes new laws on the books, some of which are controversial. [28:19.200 --> 28:47.200] Also, what one lawmaker wants to do to prevent violent hazings, like the one that recently claimed the life of a Florida college student. [28:47.200 --> 28:51.200] We have an extra $1,000 for your trade and keep all rebates. [28:51.200 --> 28:57.200] That means savings up to $6,500 on a built Ford Tough Truck and payments as low as $139 a month on Fusion. [28:57.200 --> 29:01.200] Ford is the right choice with three models that get 40 miles per gallon. [29:22.200 --> 29:24.200] And that stand, we can put it over there. [29:24.200 --> 29:27.200] And that car, we can put it on the patio for watching the game with the guys. [29:27.200 --> 29:28.200] Or in the kitchen. [29:28.200 --> 29:29.200] But these curtains are really... [29:29.200 --> 29:31.200] I can't believe you moved the TV, it's like a whole new living room. [29:31.200 --> 29:32.200] It actually is a whole new living room. [29:32.200 --> 29:35.200] The new wireless receiver, only from AT&T. [29:35.200 --> 29:38.200] Now get U-Verse with DVR at the lowest price ever. [29:38.200 --> 29:48.200] AT&T. [30:09.200 --> 30:13.200] It's about building cars in America. [30:13.200 --> 30:14.200] It's all about jobs. [30:14.200 --> 30:15.200] It's all about respect. [30:15.200 --> 30:16.200] Security. [30:16.200 --> 30:17.200] The American dream. [30:17.200 --> 30:18.200] Good jobs in tough times. [30:18.200 --> 30:20.200] A chance to move up and do better. [30:20.200 --> 30:21.200] Excellent healthcare. [30:21.200 --> 30:22.200] Beautiful benefits. [30:22.200 --> 30:24.200] What they used to call the American way. [30:24.200 --> 30:25.200] It still works here. [30:25.200 --> 30:28.200] Not a single layoff of a U.S. manufacturing worker. [30:28.200 --> 30:29.200] Not one. [30:29.200 --> 30:30.200] Not one. [30:30.200 --> 30:31.200] Doing things the right way. [30:31.200 --> 30:32.200] Quality. [30:32.200 --> 30:34.200] Building cars that Americans want. [30:34.200 --> 30:35.200] Right here in America. [30:35.200 --> 30:42.200] One day is an all-American success story. [30:42.200 --> 30:43.200] Not near your TV. [30:43.200 --> 30:49.200] Every award-winning KTVU Channel 2 newscast now streams live on KTVU.com. [30:49.200 --> 30:53.200] Complete Bay Area news coverage. [30:53.200 --> 30:58.200] It was a violent start to the new year in San Jose with as many as 10 shooting and stabbing [30:58.200 --> 31:01.200] incidents from last night to early this morning. [31:01.200 --> 31:06.200] KTVU's Deborah Villalon joins us live from San Jose with what happened. [31:06.200 --> 31:11.200] Well, we're downtown along the Guadalupe River where a man was walking about 10 o'clock [31:11.200 --> 31:13.200] last night when he was stabbed. [31:13.200 --> 31:15.200] And that was just the beginning. [31:15.200 --> 31:21.200] Minutes later, another 911 call came in for shots fired in a residential neighborhood. [31:21.200 --> 31:24.200] Officers found two wounded, one man and one juvenile. [31:24.200 --> 31:29.200] The two victims were at a New Year's Eve gathering on Ridge Glenway when that violence broke out. [31:29.200 --> 31:34.200] A neighbor tells us as his household watched TV, they were startled by that gunfire. [31:34.200 --> 31:39.200] Well, they were watching here and then we heard the gunshot with my son. [31:39.200 --> 31:44.200] And then, so I say, well, somebody's shooting, you know. [31:44.200 --> 31:47.200] And just minutes into the New Year, more trouble. [31:47.200 --> 31:50.200] This time on Skull Drive in San Jose. [31:50.200 --> 31:55.200] On this street, a fight involving several people and when it was over, six of them, [31:55.200 --> 31:58.200] mostly teenagers went to the hospital with stab wounds. [31:58.200 --> 32:02.200] San Jose police haven't gotten back to us on what the brawl was all about. [32:02.200 --> 32:07.200] Neighbors who heard the screaming and sirens say this is generally a quiet area. [32:07.200 --> 32:13.200] I've been here more than 15 years and it's not like that. [32:13.200 --> 32:14.200] It's not like that. [32:14.200 --> 32:20.200] Maybe it's people that come and decide to make parties and it happens. [32:20.200 --> 32:24.200] And back now closer to downtown, the man stabbed near the river, [32:24.200 --> 32:28.200] to walk to this street before bystanders called him an ambulance. [32:28.200 --> 32:34.200] Now, only one victim we're aware of at the shooting has injuries that may be life threatening. [32:34.200 --> 32:39.200] And as the night went on, there were three other gunfire incidents into cars, [32:39.200 --> 32:42.200] houses and groups of people, but no one hit. [32:42.200 --> 32:45.200] And several scattered stabbings as well. [32:45.200 --> 32:51.200] All of this police say is unfortunate, but not unusual for New Year's Eve. [32:51.200 --> 32:55.200] Live in San Jose, Deborah Villalon, KTVU, Channel 2 News. [32:55.200 --> 32:59.200] While the Creek Police have arrested two men in connection with a nightclub assault, [32:59.200 --> 33:05.200] the attack happened early yesterday morning at the Vice Ultra Lounge on a Royal Way in Civic Drive. [33:05.200 --> 33:08.200] The victim says he was pistol whipped by a group of people. [33:08.200 --> 33:11.200] He suffered a serious but non-life threatening head injury. [33:11.200 --> 33:15.200] Now, this is the same nightclub where a large fight broke out on November 27th [33:15.200 --> 33:17.200] with at least two people injured. [33:17.200 --> 33:21.200] New Year's Day always brings new laws, and 2012 brings changes that affect [33:21.200 --> 33:25.200] not only how you buckle up your kids, but also the medicine you buy [33:25.200 --> 33:27.200] and what your health insurance will cover. [33:27.200 --> 33:32.200] KTVU's Claudine Wong takes a look at some of the laws going into effect today. [33:32.200 --> 33:35.200] In the laundry list of laws going into effect today, [33:35.200 --> 33:37.200] most people knew about the one affecting kids in car seats. [33:37.200 --> 33:39.200] Instead of six years old or 60 pounds, [33:39.200 --> 33:43.200] new laws says keep them in until they're eight or four foot nine. [33:43.200 --> 33:46.200] I did know about that one, yep, because I got a five year old here. [33:46.200 --> 33:48.200] Other laws target teens. [33:48.200 --> 33:51.200] They can't hop into a tanning booth or buy certain cough medicines. [33:51.200 --> 33:56.200] And schools, in a first for the nation, now have to teach about gay and lesbian contributions [33:56.200 --> 34:01.200] in the classroom and have to develop plans to address gay and lesbian bullying in school. [34:01.200 --> 34:04.200] Schools and sports also affected with districts required to come up with a plan [34:04.200 --> 34:07.200] to address concussions in student athletes. [34:07.200 --> 34:11.200] Some question whether laws are necessary to make all this happen. [34:11.200 --> 34:14.200] I definitely understand that concern, but when you look at each one individually, [34:14.200 --> 34:16.200] it's kind of hard to argue against them. [34:16.200 --> 34:18.200] Some changes may not affect you. [34:18.200 --> 34:21.200] Janelle Hampton isn't worried about a ban on caffeinated beer. [34:21.200 --> 34:25.200] I do either beer or caffeine, yeah, so. [34:25.200 --> 34:26.200] That's good. [34:26.200 --> 34:28.200] It's actually, you don't have to worry about it. [34:28.200 --> 34:29.200] I think I'll be okay. [34:29.200 --> 34:32.200] 2012 means gun owners have to change things up. [34:32.200 --> 34:35.200] They can no longer carry unloaded weapons in plain sight. [34:35.200 --> 34:40.200] Job seekers should remember most potential employers can no longer check your credit. [34:40.200 --> 34:43.200] And if you have a child with autism, health insurers are now required [34:43.200 --> 34:45.200] to cover treatments. [34:45.200 --> 34:47.200] And it's not just state laws bringing change. [34:47.200 --> 34:51.200] 2012 also means a plastic bag ban in San Jose, a minimum wage hike in San Francisco, [34:51.200 --> 34:54.200] and yes, PG&E rates going up too. [34:54.200 --> 34:57.200] In Oakland, Claudine Wong, KTVU, Channel 2 News. [34:57.200 --> 35:00.200] Other major new state laws include the DREAM Act, [35:00.200 --> 35:06.200] which allows California public colleges to give private financial aid to illegal immigrants. [35:06.200 --> 35:11.200] 3,200 large California companies will have to report on whether their supply change [35:11.200 --> 35:13.200] used slave labor. [35:13.200 --> 35:17.200] It's hoped a law banning shark fin soup will reduce the slaughter of sharks. [35:17.200 --> 35:22.200] And on the local level, outdoor smoking is banned in all public places in Alameda, [35:22.200 --> 35:26.200] including sidewalks, outdoor worksites, and work vehicles. [35:26.200 --> 35:29.200] California is cracking down on businesses such as home builders [35:29.200 --> 35:31.200] paying employees cash under the table. [35:31.200 --> 35:34.200] The Chronicle reports this so-called underground economy [35:34.200 --> 35:38.200] cost the state $7 billion a year in lost revenues. [35:38.200 --> 35:41.200] Labor groups also save these businesses with hold payroll taxes [35:41.200 --> 35:45.200] for social security, Medicare, and unemployment insurance. [35:45.200 --> 35:50.200] California has assembled a task force, which includes the Departments of Industrial Relations, [35:50.200 --> 35:53.200] Employment Development, and the Board of Equalization. [35:53.200 --> 35:57.200] Unlicensed contractors face fines as well as jail time. [35:57.200 --> 36:01.200] A nationwide anti-hazing law could be introduced in Congress this month. [36:01.200 --> 36:04.200] Florida A&M University has come under close scrutiny [36:04.200 --> 36:08.200] since drum major Robert Champion died during a hazing ritual in November. [36:08.200 --> 36:12.200] The proposed law by a Florida congressman would strip financial aid [36:12.200 --> 36:15.200] from anyone sanctioned by a university for hazing [36:15.200 --> 36:20.200] or witnessing hazing and failing to report it, including the victim. [36:20.200 --> 36:24.200] The hazing measure comes as Congress considers anti-bullying legislation [36:24.200 --> 36:26.200] to protect school children. [36:26.200 --> 36:30.200] The corruption trial of former leaders of the Southern California city of Bell [36:30.200 --> 36:32.200] will proceed, at least for now. [36:32.200 --> 36:37.200] A state appellate court has dismissed and appealed by six former council members [36:37.200 --> 36:42.200] to charges that they padded their six-figure salaries without doing the required work. [36:42.200 --> 36:46.200] All six received thousands of dollars a month for work on council boards, [36:46.200 --> 36:49.200] which prosecutors say rarely have ever met. [36:49.200 --> 36:53.200] The former officials say they will appeal to the state supreme court. [36:53.200 --> 36:58.200] A San Jose based solar company has dropped plans to build a solar plant in Michigan. [36:58.200 --> 37:04.200] Global Watt blames the recession and competition from overseas for the cancellation. [37:04.200 --> 37:10.200] Saginaw, Michigan was to see 500 new jobs when plans for the factory were announced back in 2009. [37:10.200 --> 37:13.200] Officials there approved millions of dollars in incentives, [37:13.200 --> 37:17.200] but the money was never distributed because the jobs never happened. [37:17.200 --> 37:21.200] Blackbirds have fallen dead from the sky in a central Arkansas town [37:21.200 --> 37:24.200] for the second New Year's Eve in a row. [37:24.200 --> 37:30.200] Police are working with animal control officers to figure out the exact number of birds that were killed. [37:30.200 --> 37:33.200] Now, it's not clear if year-end celebrations are again to blame. [37:33.200 --> 37:37.200] You may remember last year fireworks were blamed for the deaths of thousands of birds. [37:37.200 --> 37:42.200] Biologists said last year's deaths were caused by the birds being jolted by the fireworks [37:42.200 --> 37:47.200] and flying right into homes, cars, telephone poles, and even each other. [37:47.200 --> 37:49.200] Well, it has been dry in the Sierra. [37:49.200 --> 37:54.200] We'll tell you just how little snow has fallen in the Tahoe area so far this season. [37:54.200 --> 37:57.200] And will the dry weather around the Bay Area stick around? [37:57.200 --> 38:21.200] Channel 2 meteorologist Mark Tamayo will be here with a look at the forecast for the first week of 2012. [38:28.200 --> 38:37.200] And for a limited time, pay no down and no interest for one year. [38:37.200 --> 38:40.200] Let's talk deals. Let's talk clearance. Let's talk Honda. [38:40.200 --> 38:45.200] Because this week is your last chance to get the best deal of the year on a worry-free Honda. [38:45.200 --> 38:51.200] During our end-of-year clearance event, you can drive home in a new Civic Accord or CR-V with zero due at signing. [38:51.200 --> 38:58.200] That's right, zero down, zero first month's payment, zero security deposit, and 0.9% APR. [38:58.200 --> 39:04.200] So hurry to your Northern California Honda dealer by January 3rd and let's talk savings. [39:04.200 --> 39:06.200] Honda Smart. [39:07.200 --> 39:14.200] In the name of love, a musical tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. takes place January 15th at the Paramount Theater in Oakland. [39:14.200 --> 39:17.200] Visit MLKTribute.com. [39:17.200 --> 39:22.200] Henry! Okay, I don't know where he is. Maybe he went outside. [39:22.200 --> 39:28.200] I have a dog, and you know if you have a dog, you need to get your carpet cleaned at least twice a year. [39:28.200 --> 39:34.200] Coit can do everything. They clean your carpet, your upholstery, your drapes, and now they even clean your air duct. [39:34.200 --> 39:40.200] Call right now and save 50% on carpet cleaning. Hurry. This offer is good this week only. [39:40.200 --> 39:43.200] I'm a real person. I'm not an actress. [39:43.200 --> 39:47.200] People you trust, trust, Coit. [39:47.200 --> 39:54.200] This year I decided to spare no expense for our holiday dinner, so I hired renowned chef Gordon Ramsay. [39:54.200 --> 40:01.200] Oh, come on! It's disgusting! On you! What are you doing? It's raw, you idiot! Is this your first day? [40:01.200 --> 40:04.200] Congratulations! It's your last! Get out of here! [40:04.200 --> 40:07.200] At a time when it's easy to go overboard. Happy holidays! [40:07.200 --> 40:12.200] Acura invites you to be smarter and over-save during the season of Reason Sales event. [40:12.200 --> 40:17.200] Take advantage of attractive offers on the 2012 Acura TSX for well-qualified customers. [40:17.200 --> 40:22.200] Resolutions? Well, like almost everything else, there is an app for that. [40:22.200 --> 40:31.200] To keep your New Year's resolution strong, programmers are offering smartphone applications to track eating, smoking, or other habits that you're trying to change. [40:31.200 --> 40:33.200] Reporter Karen Keifa explains. [40:33.200 --> 40:36.200] Out with old habits, in with the new. [40:36.200 --> 40:42.200] I'm going to join a gym and become more active. [40:42.200 --> 40:45.200] I'm going to try to drink more water because I drink too much diet soda. [40:45.200 --> 40:50.200] New Year's resolutions are easy to make and even easier to break. [40:50.200 --> 40:53.200] Have you guys ever had a resolution that you didn't quite stick with? [40:53.200 --> 40:54.200] Yes. [40:54.200 --> 40:56.200] Go on a diet. [40:56.200 --> 40:58.200] I didn't want to stop biting my nails, but then it never worked out. [40:58.200 --> 41:02.200] So what have you had a reminder in your pocket every day? [41:02.200 --> 41:12.200] That's the goal of smartphone apps like Resolutions 2012, which lets users choose goals, identify habits they need to change to meet them, and track progress. [41:12.200 --> 41:15.200] Weight loss is a popular resolution each year. [41:15.200 --> 41:19.200] The Daily Burn app for iPhone manages workouts and calorie counts. [41:19.200 --> 41:25.200] The new weight loss app for Android gives day-by-day tips on eating, working out, and slimming down. [41:25.200 --> 41:30.200] The My Quick Coach app from Livestrong is for those who want to kick butts in 2012. [41:30.200 --> 41:37.200] The app presents daily guidelines for quitting smoking gradually over time or helping you go cold turkey. [41:37.200 --> 41:42.200] The quitter app for iPhone tallies how much money you've saved since putting down your last cigarette. [41:42.200 --> 41:46.200] And keeping a resolution can require a support system. [41:46.200 --> 41:48.200] I want to try to eat healthier. [41:48.200 --> 41:51.200] We've got to be a role model and show them more how to eat healthy. [41:51.200 --> 41:56.200] Try posting your goal on social media so connections can cheer you on. [41:56.200 --> 41:59.200] That was Karen Kafa reporting. [41:59.200 --> 42:04.200] Some visitors to the Sierra are putting away their skis and instead taking out their golf clubs. [42:04.200 --> 42:10.200] The National Weather Service says Tahoe had the 8th driest December since 1903. [42:10.200 --> 42:18.200] Just 3.72 inches of precipitation fell in the last three months of the year, just 31% of average precipitation. [42:18.200 --> 42:26.200] In fact, the owner of the old Brockway golf club on Tahoe's normally snowy North Shore says that he's actually open right now [42:26.200 --> 42:30.200] for the first time ever in his 20 years of business. [42:30.200 --> 42:32.200] It is amazing what a difference a year makes. [42:32.200 --> 42:33.200] Absolutely. [42:33.200 --> 42:35.200] And we were up there last year and it was just snow everywhere. [42:35.200 --> 42:37.200] Yeah, absolutely. [42:37.200 --> 42:39.200] Well, is it going to change? That's the question. [42:39.200 --> 42:43.200] KTVU meteorologist Mark Tamayo joins us now to give us our forecast. [42:43.200 --> 42:47.200] Well, yeah, we have it locked in this dry weather pattern essentially for over a month now [42:47.200 --> 42:54.200] with a few a week systems moving in and unfortunately no big changes showing up in the long range weather maps as we begin 2012. [42:54.200 --> 42:56.200] Here's a look at the highs from today. [42:56.200 --> 42:57.200] You can see, look at these 70s. [42:57.200 --> 42:58.200] It is January 1st. [42:58.200 --> 43:01.200] Morgan Hill topped out at 74 degrees. [43:01.200 --> 43:05.200] I will say Santa Cruz also topped out in the lower 70s as well as 73. [43:05.200 --> 43:10.200] Sampatchee fog lingered right around in the Concord of Vallejo keeping those temperatures in the upper 50s. [43:10.200 --> 43:14.200] But still, at least across most of the Bay Area temperatures on the mild side. [43:14.200 --> 43:18.200] This was a time lapse about an hour ago looking out toward the Oakland Estuary. [43:18.200 --> 43:22.200] A few high clouds have an increase and you can see all the boats coming in from an ice day on the Bay [43:22.200 --> 43:24.200] to celebrate New Year's Day. [43:24.200 --> 43:27.200] As far as overnight lows starting out tomorrow morning on the cool side, [43:27.200 --> 43:32.200] once again we're talking about some 30s showing up in Santa Rosa and Napa and also Concord. [43:32.200 --> 43:35.200] Oakland at 42 and San Jose right around 40. [43:35.200 --> 43:36.200] Patchee fog. [43:36.200 --> 43:40.200] Locally dense could return especially toward the inland valleys right around the Delta as well [43:40.200 --> 43:43.200] and up in the North Bay for Santa Rosa. [43:43.200 --> 43:47.200] The bigger perspective in the Pacific, the satellite, there's actually a storm out here [43:47.200 --> 43:50.200] but the unfortunate part of that news, if you want the rain and the snow, [43:50.200 --> 43:52.200] it is heading way up to our North. [43:52.200 --> 43:54.200] So here's the system I am tracking for tomorrow. [43:54.200 --> 43:57.200] The associated cold front will be approaching Northern California. [43:57.200 --> 44:02.200] This will have an impact on our forecast for your Monday with partly to mostly cloudy skies. [44:02.200 --> 44:06.200] Most areas coming down about four to eight degrees from today's highs [44:06.200 --> 44:11.200] and there is just a tiny chance, not much of a chance of a North Bay sprinkle [44:11.200 --> 44:14.200] as we do head into it tomorrow afternoon but it looks like the bulk of the shower activity [44:14.200 --> 44:17.200] will be up to our North and we're not expecting much. [44:17.200 --> 44:20.200] This is mainly a cloud producer and also bringing some cooler air. [44:20.200 --> 44:23.200] In fact, it shows up nicely with the updated forecast model. [44:23.200 --> 44:25.200] Tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock, some cloud cover out there. [44:25.200 --> 44:28.200] You'll notice that rain band from Cape Mendocino to the North [44:28.200 --> 44:31.200] and not drifting too much to the South by 12 o'clock. [44:31.200 --> 44:32.200] So quite a few clouds. [44:32.200 --> 44:37.200] That's why we do have partly to mostly cloudy skies in the Bay Area forecast for your Monday. [44:37.200 --> 44:41.200] 7 o'clock, definitely want to bundle up with temperatures in the upper 30s to the upper 40s. [44:41.200 --> 44:45.200] A sun cloud mix by 12 o'clock, still quite a few clouds out there. [44:45.200 --> 44:47.200] And then by 3 o'clock, partly cloudy skies. [44:47.200 --> 44:51.200] Most areas on either side of 60 degrees for afternoon highs. [44:51.200 --> 44:53.200] Santa Rosa no longer in the upper 60s. [44:53.200 --> 44:59.200] We're going to put you at 61. San Francisco 59 and San Jose tops out 63 degrees [44:59.200 --> 45:02.200] out of the 70s in Morgan Hill back down to 65. [45:02.200 --> 45:04.200] Here is a look ahead, your extended forecast. [45:04.200 --> 45:07.200] You will notice this, temperatures in fact warming up a little bit [45:07.200 --> 45:10.200] as we do head into Tuesday and then also into Wednesday. [45:10.200 --> 45:14.200] Partly cloudy skies on Thursday as these very weak systems move up to our North [45:14.200 --> 45:16.200] with your weekend always in view. [45:16.200 --> 45:18.200] If you're looking for more rain, you're not going to find it here just yet [45:18.200 --> 45:20.200] with those readings mainly in the lower 60s. [45:20.200 --> 45:23.200] Heather and Ken, typically when we have a dry period, [45:23.200 --> 45:26.200] we always have the other extreme about two weeks away, [45:26.200 --> 45:29.200] but I can usually always advertise that in the forecast, [45:29.200 --> 45:31.200] but nothing is showing up just yet. [45:31.200 --> 45:32.200] Nothing inside, huh? [45:32.200 --> 45:35.200] Yeah, and hopefully maybe things could change with the updated forecast charts [45:35.200 --> 45:36.200] coming in the next few hours. [45:36.200 --> 45:37.200] All right, Mark, thanks. [45:37.200 --> 45:38.200] Thanks. [45:38.200 --> 45:42.200] Well, Tom Cruise's latest mission is succeeding at the box office. [45:42.200 --> 45:44.200] Jump now? [45:44.200 --> 45:45.200] Yes, commit. [45:45.200 --> 45:46.200] Jump. [45:46.200 --> 45:47.200] Jump. [45:47.200 --> 45:51.200] Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol has now scaled more than $100 million [45:51.200 --> 45:56.200] in U.S. sales, about $30 million from this final holiday weekend. [45:56.200 --> 46:00.200] The action-packed film is helping Hollywood finish a tough year on a high note. [46:00.200 --> 46:02.200] Mission was again followed by Sherlock Holmes, [46:02.200 --> 46:05.200] A Game of Shadows, and Alvin and the Chipmunks, Chipwrecked. [46:05.200 --> 46:07.200] Steven Spielberg's new movie, War Horse, [46:07.200 --> 46:12.200] started the fourth place, and the violent thriller girl with the dragon tattoo [46:12.200 --> 46:14.200] is inked in at fifth place. [46:14.200 --> 46:18.200] Well, it is a nail-biter Sunday as teams all around the NFL battle [46:18.200 --> 46:21.200] for final playoff spots, and that includes the Raiders. [46:21.200 --> 46:50.200] We'll have complete highlights coming up next in Sports Wrap. [46:51.200 --> 46:55.200] Let us save you money in our four airport-appliance showrooms. [48:24.200 --> 48:28.200] Don't let technology pass you by. [48:28.200 --> 48:33.200] Go to the KTV.com ski section under the weather tab for up-to-date ski reports. [48:52.200 --> 48:53.200] I'm Mark Ibanez. [48:53.200 --> 48:54.200] Welcome to Sports Wrap. [48:54.200 --> 48:59.200] I think it was a little more entertaining than anybody who pulls for the 49ers wanted it to be, [48:59.200 --> 49:02.200] but the end result, it fits the wish list. [49:02.200 --> 49:05.200] Victory, a first round buy, and no major injuries. [49:05.200 --> 49:09.200] I'll tell you what though, San Francisco, they can dish out punishment on defense. [49:09.200 --> 49:13.200] No doubt sending a few of the Rams into their offices with some bumps and bruises. [49:13.200 --> 49:16.200] The always punishing Patrick Willis was back. [49:16.200 --> 49:17.200] Bad hamstring. [49:17.200 --> 49:18.200] He's healthy. [49:18.200 --> 49:19.200] Down early, 7-0. [49:19.200 --> 49:20.200] Niners tie it. [49:20.200 --> 49:23.200] Alex Smith got good blocks from Justin Peel and Frank Gore. [49:23.200 --> 49:25.200] He is in from 11 yards out. [49:25.200 --> 49:26.200] We got 7-7. [49:26.200 --> 49:28.200] Just a wee bit later. [49:28.200 --> 49:30.200] Smith will zip it to Michael Crabtree. [49:30.200 --> 49:32.200] Want to see why the Rams are so bad? [49:32.200 --> 49:33.200] Yeah, they can't tackle. [49:33.200 --> 49:35.200] That's one thing, 28 yards. [49:35.200 --> 49:37.200] Touchdown, 20-7. [49:37.200 --> 49:39.200] Niners at half, third quarter. [49:39.200 --> 49:41.200] You will see a little trickery here. [49:41.200 --> 49:42.200] The fake field goal. [49:42.200 --> 49:47.200] David Akers lobbing to Michael Crabtree all by his lonesome 27-10. [49:47.200 --> 49:48.200] You gotta take a look at that. [49:48.200 --> 49:50.200] He's getting Crabtree a little sheepish there. [49:50.200 --> 49:51.200] Look at him. [49:51.200 --> 49:52.200] He's out there. [49:52.200 --> 49:54.200] Rams don't happen to notice that. [49:54.200 --> 49:58.200] And Akers, who said he didn't even get to warm his arm up, lobs it to him perfectly. [49:58.200 --> 50:04.200] 34-13 when Kellan Clemens of the Rams will loft one deep for the former 49er Brandon Lloyd. [50:04.200 --> 50:07.200] Touchdown, 36 yards. [50:07.200 --> 50:11.200] They add another touchdown after an onside kick was successful. [50:11.200 --> 50:15.200] But Clemens in the late going sack by Navarro Bowman. [50:15.200 --> 50:17.200] Not pretty much put an end to the Rams. [50:17.200 --> 50:19.200] 34-27, the final. [50:19.200 --> 50:22.200] Jim Harren, Harbaugh and Company wrap one up. [50:22.200 --> 50:25.200] One of their best regular seasons ever, two at 13 and three. [50:25.200 --> 50:30.200] And the first round by, and they'll finally play at the stick in two weeks. [50:30.200 --> 50:36.200] Meanwhile, with all due respect, if you saw the Raiders with everything on the line this afternoon, [50:36.200 --> 50:40.200] there for the taking, simply put, they just didn't deserve to be in the playoffs. [50:40.200 --> 50:46.200] The Chargers will move the ball at will and eventually move the Raiders right on into vacation mode. [50:46.200 --> 50:49.200] Carson Palmer to Darius Hayward Bay. [50:49.200 --> 50:53.200] That's a nice little fade play, 7-0 DHB by the way. [50:53.200 --> 50:55.200] Great game as you see the catch again. [50:55.200 --> 50:57.200] Nine grabs for him, 130 yards. [50:57.200 --> 50:58.200] The touchdown. [50:58.200 --> 51:00.200] San Diego answers back. [51:00.200 --> 51:03.200] Phillip Rivers to Antonio Gates. [51:03.200 --> 51:07.200] That was what it was, just a porous defense by the Raiders all afternoon. [51:07.200 --> 51:11.200] 7-7, now watch this on the kickoff a bit later. [51:11.200 --> 51:16.200] Richard Goodman comes out of the end zone and nobody will stop him. [51:16.200 --> 51:22.200] He's gone, 105 yard return for the Chargers and they lead it 24-13 and a half. [51:22.200 --> 51:26.200] Still, the Raiders with a great shot at pulling this ball game out. [51:26.200 --> 51:32.200] In the fourth quarter, Palmer, who threw for 401 yards, up top for the tight end, Kevin Boss. [51:32.200 --> 51:33.200] He's got it. [51:33.200 --> 51:36.200] Touchdown Raiders, they pulled it within 31-26. [51:36.200 --> 51:39.200] Boss shaken up on the play, had to be helped off. [51:39.200 --> 51:43.200] As you see the replay there, he seemed to take a shot to the back of the neck. [51:43.200 --> 51:46.200] But after that, the kickoff ensues. [51:46.200 --> 51:47.200] It's a key play. [51:47.200 --> 51:52.200] Again, Goodman will bobble the ball apparently on the goal line. [51:52.200 --> 51:55.200] The Raiders, their fans, everybody thinks that's a safety. [51:55.200 --> 51:58.200] They've got the momentum, the ball in two points. [51:58.200 --> 52:01.200] But the officials have to review, correctly rule. [52:01.200 --> 52:07.200] It's a San Diego ball on the half yard line and dejectedly the Raiders. [52:07.200 --> 52:10.200] Just give it up, 99 and a half yard drive. [52:10.200 --> 52:17.200] Rivers to Malcolm Floyd to finish it off and finish off the Raiders 38-26. [52:17.200 --> 52:18.200] Hugh Jackson is living. [52:18.200 --> 52:20.200] You'll hear from him tonight at 10. [52:20.200 --> 52:22.200] For the second straight year, Raiders finish 8-8. [52:22.200 --> 52:25.200] Needless to say, this one stings a bit more than last year. [52:25.200 --> 52:27.200] They had the playoffs in their sights. [52:27.200 --> 52:30.200] So after all, it's Tebow time in the playoffs. [52:30.200 --> 52:32.200] Although through the back door, there's a mom. [52:32.200 --> 52:34.200] She had a son on both teams. [52:34.200 --> 52:36.200] Chiefs and Broncos only touched down to the game. [52:36.200 --> 52:39.200] Dexter McCluster from 21 yards out will scamper to the end zone. [52:39.200 --> 52:44.200] 7-3 Denver losing, but still winning. [52:44.200 --> 52:50.200] The Jets, meanwhile, had their very verbose coach shut up. [52:50.200 --> 52:53.200] They go home after blowing it against the Dolphins. [52:53.200 --> 52:55.200] Matt Moore, a toss to Charles Clay. [52:55.200 --> 52:58.200] One yard, 1917 Miami. [52:58.200 --> 53:00.200] And by the way, one of the great careers coming to an end. [53:00.200 --> 53:08.200] Jason Taylor retiring for the Dolphins after 15 years in the NFL 13 of them with Miami. [53:08.200 --> 53:11.200] Baltimore, bruising it up with the Bengals. [53:11.200 --> 53:13.200] A low scoring event. [53:13.200 --> 53:17.200] The Baltimore Ravens, they make you pay for everything. [53:17.200 --> 53:19.200] And then Ray Rice on the loose, 70 yards. [53:19.200 --> 53:25.200] Ravens roll 24-16 to wrap up the number two seed in the AFC. [53:25.200 --> 53:29.200] Meanwhile, the Packers and Lions, who needs Aaron Rodgers? [53:29.200 --> 53:33.200] Did you hear about the Packers' backup quarterback, Matt Flynn? [53:33.200 --> 53:35.200] He'll flip a little screen pass here to Ryan Grant. [53:35.200 --> 53:38.200] He'll do the rest, 80 yards. [53:38.200 --> 53:42.200] And by the way, Flynn, six touchdown passes. [53:42.200 --> 53:44.200] That's a Packer record. [53:44.200 --> 53:46.200] Rodgers, Brett Farr. [53:46.200 --> 53:49.200] This kid's got the record, 45-41. [53:49.200 --> 53:51.200] Packers lose only once in the regular season. [53:51.200 --> 53:54.200] The Saints are the three seed in the NFC, [53:54.200 --> 53:57.200] and they do look as though they're peaking right now. [53:57.200 --> 53:59.200] They're just rolling big time on offense. [53:59.200 --> 54:03.200] 17-all Carolina, Drew Brees flips for Marcus Colston. [54:03.200 --> 54:06.200] 42 yards, Brees on the beam again. [54:06.200 --> 54:10.200] Touchdown Saints, big time, 45-17. [54:10.200 --> 54:12.200] Took the Patriots a while to heat it up, [54:12.200 --> 54:14.200] looking to lock up the home field advantage [54:14.200 --> 54:16.200] for the postseason in the AFC. [54:16.200 --> 54:18.200] Down 21, zip to Buffalo. [54:18.200 --> 54:21.200] Early Tom Brady loves his tight end. [54:21.200 --> 54:24.200] Rob Gronkowski, 49-21 final. [54:24.200 --> 54:28.200] Brady on the day, 338 yards passing, and three touchdowns. [54:28.200 --> 54:31.200] Fill out the rest of the NFL on this final day of the regular season. [54:31.200 --> 54:33.200] Tennessee not going to the playoffs. [54:33.200 --> 54:35.200] Even with their win, the Bengals lose, [54:35.200 --> 54:39.200] and they get there anyway through a convoluted circumstance. [54:39.200 --> 54:41.200] Meanwhile, in other games, [54:41.200 --> 54:43.200] Pittsburgh on the long end against Cleveland [54:43.200 --> 54:44.200] look like a boring one there. [54:44.200 --> 54:47.200] Colts lose again, securing the number one pick [54:47.200 --> 54:48.200] in this spring's draft. [54:48.200 --> 54:51.200] Atlanta, Clobbers Tampa, the Bucks quit weeks. [54:51.200 --> 54:55.200] Vick throws for three TDs, 335 yards. [54:55.200 --> 54:58.200] The Eagles roll, but they go home. [54:58.200 --> 55:01.200] The Bears win, but they are done as is Minnesota. [55:01.200 --> 55:03.200] And in overtime, it was Arizona, [55:03.200 --> 55:05.200] a field goal better than Seattle. [55:05.200 --> 55:08.200] Great one this evening, the NFC East at stake. [55:08.200 --> 55:09.200] Win, and you're in. [55:09.200 --> 55:12.200] Dallas and the Giants no score yet [55:12.200 --> 55:14.200] at the medal ends from that one. [55:14.200 --> 55:16.200] The second half of sports wrap just ahead, [55:16.200 --> 55:18.200] and it looks like a former playoff hero [55:18.200 --> 55:20.200] for talking baseball here. [55:20.200 --> 55:23.200] Might be making the commute across the Bay Bridge [55:23.200 --> 55:25.200] to the east side of the Bay. [55:25.200 --> 55:27.200] A little NBA stuff to talk about [55:27.200 --> 55:30.200] when we come back to sports wrap part two next. [55:38.200 --> 55:40.200] Oh, my God. [55:40.200 --> 55:41.200] How did you do this? [55:41.200 --> 55:42.200] These are all my friends. [55:42.200 --> 56:07.200] Wednesday at nine on KTVU Fox 10. [56:07.200 --> 56:09.200] This year I decided to spare no expense [56:09.200 --> 56:11.200] for our holiday dinner. [56:11.200 --> 56:14.200] So I hired renowned chef Gordon Ramsay. [56:14.200 --> 56:15.200] Oh, come on. [56:15.200 --> 56:17.200] It's disgusting on you. [56:17.200 --> 56:18.200] What are you doing? [56:18.200 --> 56:19.200] It's raw. [56:19.200 --> 56:20.200] You idiot. [56:20.200 --> 56:21.200] Is this your first day? [56:21.200 --> 56:22.200] Congratulations. [56:22.200 --> 56:23.200] It's your last. [56:23.200 --> 56:24.200] Get out of here. [56:24.200 --> 56:26.200] At a time when it's easy to go overboard. [56:26.200 --> 56:27.200] Happy holidays. [56:27.200 --> 56:29.200] Acura invites you to be smarter [56:29.200 --> 56:32.200] and over save during the season of Reason Sales event. [57:40.200 --> 57:42.200] Certainly mixed messages with the news now [57:42.200 --> 57:44.200] that they're interested in outfielder Cody Ross. [57:44.200 --> 57:46.200] He's also reportedly in talks with the former giant. [57:46.200 --> 57:48.200] Ross, who overpriced himself [57:48.200 --> 57:50.200] in the early stages of the winter, [57:50.200 --> 57:51.200] asking for a three year deal. [57:51.200 --> 57:52.200] Now getting some nibbles. [57:52.200 --> 57:54.200] Ross, who caught lightning in a bottle [57:54.200 --> 57:56.200] in the 2010 postseason, [57:56.200 --> 57:58.200] apparently has lowered his demands [57:58.200 --> 58:00.200] after an extremely disappointing [58:00.200 --> 58:02.200] 2011 season with the Giants [58:02.200 --> 58:04.200] when he hit only 240. [58:04.200 --> 58:06.200] And that is the sporting life [58:06.200 --> 58:07.200] for a Sunday evening. [58:07.200 --> 58:08.200] We'll see you again tonight at 10. [58:08.200 --> 58:09.200] All right. [58:09.200 --> 58:10.200] Thanks, Mark. [58:10.200 --> 58:11.200] Thanks, Mark. [58:11.200 --> 58:12.200] We're coming up tonight on the 10 o'clock news. [58:12.200 --> 58:13.200] A new year, of course, [58:13.200 --> 58:14.200] means new laws. [58:14.200 --> 58:15.200] In a Bay Area city, [58:15.200 --> 58:17.200] might just have one of the toughest in the nation [58:17.200 --> 58:19.200] when it comes to smoking. [58:19.200 --> 58:22.200] The places you will no longer be allowed to light up. [58:22.200 --> 58:24.200] Thank you so much for trusting KTVU Channel 2 News. [59:06.200 --> 59:09.200] SleepTrain thanks all those who helped [59:09.200 --> 59:10.200] make a difference last year [59:10.200 --> 59:13.200] for thousands of California foster kids. [59:13.200 --> 59:15.200] Thank you for helping foster kids. [59:15.200 --> 59:17.200] Thank you for the school supplies. [59:17.200 --> 59:19.200] Thank you for the new shoes. [59:23.200 --> 59:25.200] Your generosity proves that while [59:25.200 --> 59:27.200] not everyone can be a foster parent, [59:27.200 --> 59:30.200] anyone can help a foster child. [59:30.200 --> 59:31.200] Thank you. [59:31.200 --> 59:32.200] Thank you. [59:32.200 --> 59:35.200] Gracias por ayuda. [59:35.200 --> 59:37.200] Thank you. [59:37.200 --> 59:50.200] One cheese. [59:50.200 --> 59:52.200] Why do we test the lithium polymer battery [59:52.200 --> 59:56.200] in our Sonata Hybrid for over 275,000 miles? [59:56.200 --> 01:00:25.200] So you'll have one less battery to work.
